Turkey is the only country in this world to exist in two continents Europe and Asia. Though most of the Turkey lies on the Asian side, but there are 4 beautiful countries on the European side too. The main one being Istanbul which is half located in the European site and half on the Asian site. In this article we are going to discuss the difference between European and Turkish sites of Turkey.
Istanbul was first discovered on the Asian site. However, during the ottomans time the city grew on both the sites of continent as transportation became easier and easier too. The Asian site of Turkey does not have many tourist attractions as it is more considered as a place to live, but the European site consists of many.
The European site has more historical sites
Constantinople a very old place from the romans time, was the area inside the walls and as the city centre during romans and ottomans time. Until the 19th century till the ferries started the Asian site was a small old village. Another reason why the Asian site has less historical places to visit is that the stones from that sites were taken for construction so not many buildings are left.
Population
Asian site has more population of Turkey than the European site as it is obvious because Asia has more cities than Europe. However, Istanbul is more populated in Europe than in Asia. European side has always been the center of trade, business and industry. They say Asian side is dormitory of the city.
Western Environment
The European site is considered as more westerner or European. From the beginning all the European colonies have been on that site so the European site is considered to have more western environment in terms of appearance.
Transportation
It is easier to travel in the European site than in the Asian site of Turkey. Public bus line on the European sites are more than Asian sites. Whereas train lines is one and half time more than the European side.
Asian side is higher than the European side with the hills like Aydos Tepesi and Camlica Tepesi.
Coast Line
Turkey has a big coastline of about approximately more than 8000 kms. So, on whose side is the coastline better?
Well, the Asian side of coast is much better than the European side as it is much nicer and developed. There is more space on the Asian coastline to walk, jog and cycle.
Few other important key points are:
- The European side has more hotels because it is the centre of tourist attraction.
- The crime rate is less on Asian side.
- Sports centre, museums, tv channels and press are all located on the European side.
- There are more universities campus on the European side than on the Asian side
- The night life is more active on the European side.
